Ethan Marcotte has been hailed as the pioneer of the responsive web design. He did after all coin the term, so who better than him to teach it? Making extensive use of CSS3, Ethan shows how to use semantic code, screen types, and queries to overwrite rules based on screen size.

Mobile web has more users than ever before and now for the first time ever out numbers non mobile devices. Hence having mobile sites is important without a doubt. However, it is not feasible to make websites for each and every type of mobile device and their resolutions. Responsive Web Design aims to solve that problem.

The main concept of the book is in making flexible template based on percentages and ems, instead of fixed pixels and width tags. Responsive Web Design is not a codebook and is a case study based book.

Responsive Web Design is released by A Book Apart, and just like all their titles is very brief and too the point.

The djent scene has rapidly started getting stale last year with more copycats and uninspired work than originals. Not to mention the completely pointless growling with ridiculous lyrics that most bands have for no freaking reason at all. Although Chimp Spanner might be considered djent, he is far better and beyond 99% of the artists in the scene. Great progressive tunes and no vocals. You can’t ask for much more. And while not exactly a Chimp, he can riff. A lot. In case you didn’t know, Chimp Spanner’s music is very ambient and progressive. Tons of layers and textures, all building on each other. And upon all those layers are killer riffs and leads. It takes special talent to make instrumental music work.

Even though only six tracks long(it is an EP after all), this is classic Chimp Spanner material. Don’t let the song or album length fool you. The album is all head banging and no track skipping. With this release, Chimp Spanner has further established his legacy as one of the best instrumental acts today, djent or not.

Dark Age Of Technology starts with loud drums and riffs and sets the mood for the album. It is everything Chimp Spanner is famous for, without repetition. This song is like a minefield of hooks The drumming on this song is just plain nasty. And in a good way. A beautiful way to start the album.

Engrams is a very ambient track with eastern flavours. Nice synths with a clean guitar tone make this track standout. Engrams is the shortest track on the album and sounds like the theme to a Science Fiction show.

The highlight of the record, is three part suite titled Mobius. Mobius is equal parts shreddy, djenty and ambient. Combined, the Mobius suite is among the best Chimp songs yet. Mobius Part I starts with a echoing/delayed riff, that continues throughout the song and variations of it are heard throughout the suite. Mobius Part II starts along the veins of Mobius Part I, albeit more with more synth parts. The synth sounds on this album are phenomenal and give a great detail to the music. Mobius Part III is the heaviest part of the Mobius suite and is very shredy, leading to the climatic finish of Mobius suite.

The album closer Cloud City, is classic Chimp Spanner and nicely wraps up the album. Much more cleaner in tone and less heavy hitting than the album openr, Dark Age Of Technology. Filled with hooks and riffs, this song ends with a tasty solo and drumming that is similar to the one heard on Dark Age Of Technology.

Chimp Spanner is Paul Antonio Ortiz.

All Roads Lead Here(EP) released on 6th February 2012.

Tracklist
01. Dark Age Of Technology
02. Engrams
03. Mobius Pt I
04. Mobius Pt II
05. Mobius Pt III
06. Cloud City

1. Limitations of CSS media queries.

Responsive web design relies heavily on CSS media queries to be compatible on a wide range of devices. However, most mobile devices are not compatible with CSS media queries.

2. Image Resizing.

Responsive web design resizes images to the mobile device’s screen. The full image is downloaded on a mobile device and resized to fit the screen. This consumes unnecessary CPU and RAM.

3. Speed.

Mobile users usually have less speed compared to desktop users. Responsive design does not remove any code that may not be used. The unnecessary JavaScript or HTML code is not removed and is still downloaded. This makes the site slower.

4. Mobile needs and desktop needs may be different.

Responsive Web Design resizes the website to fit the device and does not use key mobile features like the geolocation, gestures, hardware limitations, etc. as those features are not available on desktop devices.

5. Mobile versions are always more optimized.

Mobile versions of a website include smaller images, less HTML, less JavaScript and less CSS. They are made with the full requirements, resolutions and speed of the specific device in mind.

Dota 2 Beta has been out to the lucky few for a little while now. Does this game hold up and carry on the original?

The user interface has changed from the original Dota. It feels much more responsive and better. Matchmaking has several options divided by region. A great new feature is the ability to re-join the game within 5 minutes of getting disconnected. This feature is simply a godsend. Spectating is easier than before, allowing you to learn and watch other players and their builds.

The gameplay has been kept very similar to the original Dota. This is no surprise as the lead developers are same and promises were made that nothing would be drastically changed. Almost all heroes from the original Dota are available, even thou the names of the heroes are somewhat changed. Spellcasting has been significantly improved. Items are easier to buy and suggested guides for each hero are a great addition.

The graphics have been given a makeover. The game simply looks fantastic, even on very low end or old graphics card. This will be a relief as this means almost all Dota players can run the game quite well, without lag. The battles have been given more detail than before. The looks of the some of the heroes have been completely changed. This has not been taken well by many players. The overall system requirements are almost as same as for the original Dota.

The matchmaking needs a lot to be done. Abandoning a game has very dire consequences. If you abandon a game or so, you will pretty much be unable to join any game at all for a time period of 24 hours, as your are sent to the bottom of the matchmaking list for this time period. This is simply unacceptable. The Dota community has and continues to get worse year after year, all due to the snobbish attitudes of clans and entitled players. Hence at times there is no option but to abandon a game.

Shakib Al Hasan, after his outstanding performance against Pakistan in Mirpur, is now the No. 1 Test allrounder in the world as per the latest ICC rankings. Shakib ended Jacques Kallis long stay at the top. Kallis was the No. 1 allrounder for 3696 days.

The performance against Pakistan, where he became the first Bangladesh player to score a hundred and take five wickets in an innings during a Test, with a score of 144 and stats of 6 for 82 won him the Man-of-the-Match award. It was Shakib’s second century in tests. His average is 34.68 with the bat and 31.36 with the ball and has taken 96 Test wickets, needing only 4 more to reach 100.

On receiving the news, Shakib was elated but stressed that he would have loved if the team did better. This is one man who never stops pushing himself towards perfection.

The long awaited album from progressive metal band Ever Forthright is finally out.
The self titled album was released on December 13, 2011 on Myriad Records.
Clocking under just about 80 minutes, this is on album that will rock your socks and shirts off.
The supposed genre of djent has already started running in circles,
but these guys have taken it into a whole different level.
Made by a group of friends in music school, their music is highly influenced by Jazz.

What will no doubt gather the interest of most, will be the fact that the band is fronted by Chris Barretto,
better known as the ex-vocalist and primary writer of most of the lyrics on Periphery’s album.
Know this, Chris Barretto is one hell of a vocalist.
Myself, I prefer instrumental versions, and Ever Forthright have an instrumental version of their album.
The riffs on this album are killer. This is one album you have to listen to.

Tracklist
01 – All Eyes on the Earth
02 – Latency and Tendencies
03 – The Little Albert Experiment
